Review of Goosebumps (2015) by Anthony D — 05 Nov 2017
I would've liked a film more focused on a straight adaptation of a book but this will do for now. It was nice to see Slappy come to life and the special effects here are top notch. Jack Black blends into the role of Stine and the film is really clever with the concept. I hope they make more but on the other hand I want a Ghost Beach film adaption or a Girl who cried monster. Fan of the source material and the Fear Street series so I was in a little geek heaven here.
Caught this again on Netflix and I have raised by half a star. The film is very self aware and if you enjoyed the series as a kid, you can now share with the younger crowd. Black is very solid and charismatic as the lead author, my initial annoyance about not making a direct film has been lowered. I still think they could have created a nice little shared universe for the goosebump series, it is all the rage these days. 05-11-2017.
