Review of Goon (2012) by James C — 23 Jul 2012
Goon is your traditional sports movie with appealing actors, particularly Seann William Scott and Allison Pill. Liev Schreiber played a coach, which floored me because I have never seen him in a movie like this.
What was really different about this film was the the protagonist was not very sharp. The dialogue between him and Pill's character at the beginning was funny, uncomfortable, and sweet all at the same time.
This is when his character became believable. Pill, while gorgeous to the nth degree, had a mundane role, but she carries it off better than most other women who have played this type of person. In all, the script was predictable, but the movie was fun to watch.
It also increased my stereotypical fear of Russians in a comical way--kind of a Russkie version of the Hanson brothers of Slap Shot.
