Review of Goon (2012) by Jay L — 21 Aug 2012
"Meet Doug, the nicest guy you will ever fight..".
Its the r-rated version of The Mighty Ducks, the only things this film is missing is Gordon Bombay and his famous "Flying V". And now back to the review. Goon is a wickedly furiously awesome hockey film, in fact its a great sports film period, a brutally violent, often hilarious and truly uncanny film that had me glued to my seat throughout the entire show. An insanely bloody and downright painful hockey film, it was literally to the point that I was in pain myself watching this. The fight sequences are among some of the most violently and brutally gruesome in your face fights ever captured on film, im convinced, beautifully choreagraphed and bloody as all hell, I loved it! There is even a painfully hard sequences to watch, shot in slow motion, a slap shot drills Seann William Scott's in the mouth and literally you can see teeth shattering along with blood and gore splattering everywhere, its very painful to watch, faint at heart be warned for Goon will test your limits. Above all the sports acrion and intense fighting there is a beautifully constructed love story that will keep the audience broad and not limited to sports fans which was a good move by Director Michael Dowse (Take Me Home Tonight, another great film by Dowse) to widen the audience for this film.
Seann William Scott is awesome he plays the nicest, most down to Earth badass youve ever seen. Jay Barachel I found to be rather annoying throughout, hes the films only downfall. Liev Schreiber is great as well and the final fight between William Scott's character and Liev Schreiber's character is EPIC! Loved the film.
