A warmhearted and compassionate film featuring warmhearted and compassionate characters, yet its central narrative element is brutal violence. And it doesn't look down on the savagery; it instead finds a moment of purity and elation and heightened positive emotion in a guy getting his fucking tooth knocked out.
It's joy via bloodshed. Feels sort of transcendent.
