Review of GoodFellas (1990) by Fozzy — 03 Jul 2013
The Godfather defined the mafia film genre in 1972, with astonishing performances from everyone involved. Martin Scorsese re-defined that same genre with this film in 1990. Not only was it masterfully put together, but almost all of the acting (bar Lorraine Bracco) was absolutely astonishing, the musical choices were great, it united screen legends De Niro and Pesci for the first time, it won an Oscar, and it propelled Martin Scorsese to a new level of fame he had not seen since such films as Taxi Driver and Raging Bull.
This set the bar not only for Scorsese films after it, or mafia films after it, but crime films in general. This is one of the best films of all time, and if you don't believe that you should watch it again.
