Review of GoodFellas (1990) by Mitch B — 15 Feb 2013
GoodFellas is Martin Scorsese's true masterpiece. No other film in history has ever taken us this deep inside the organized crime world, showing every minute detail and idiosyncrasy of each main player.
From Liotta's Hill's myriad of trysts to Pesci's penchant for the defensive. The camera work is unforgettable (see the famous tracking shot through the Copacabana). As is typical with many Scorsese films, the soundtrack meshes perfectly with the action on the screen.
At times it's even darkly funny, especially the scene in Tommy's mother's house. Great performances throughout, with special attention to Oscar winner Pesci as the short-fused Tommy. Watch it again and again and again.
It never gets old.
