Review of GoodFellas (1990) by Paul P — 19 Aug 2013
Re-watching this film recently, it struck me that over 20 years on it has lost none of its power and its reputation as one of the greatest films ever made still stands.
Everything about the film just feels right. The story, direction and cast are perfectly drawn together and in a way it made me kinda sad as they really don't make films like this anymore. There are so many classic sequences here and the pace of the story telling is just breath taking.
De Niro's Conway is terrific, Pesci's Tommy is a deranged and funny psycho and Liotta is on never better form as our guide into the lives of these wise guys. Quite how this flick did not win best picture is beyond me.
A real example of what talented and driven storytellers can deliver, this is a perfect film.....
