Review of GoodFellas (1990) by Thomas L — 22 Feb 2014
"As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster".
A masterpiece of directing, acting and storytelling, GoodFellas is a massive triumph for Scorsese. Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta both shine in their roles, and Robert De Niro is perfect as always when playing a gangster. The film also has a strong and well one form of storytelling in the beginning with Henry Hill narrating his early life. The atmosphere, editing, directing and music provides an amazing 60's - 70's American feel. The film justifies its length with a strong narratie structure throughout, jumping seamlessly through the years as we see how things resolve with Henry Hill during his life as a gangster.
