Review of GoodFellas (1990) by Shane Z — 12 Mar 2014

I can't really decide if this or the first two Godfathers are the best Mafia movie ever. All those movies provide a great look of high levels in the mob world, this film takes a high and low class work by high working class wise guys.
A film adaptation of the 1986 nonfiction book (Wiseguy) by Nicholas Pileggi about the life of Henry Hill an mobster and FBI informant of Vario (renamed Cicero in the movie) crew, Hill (Ray Liotta) and other wise guys, his partner Tommy (Joe Pesci), and his mentor Jimmy (Robert De Niro) making him a "Stand-up and made guy", an true member for the crime family.
In "Goodfellas", Martin Scorsese does something simple and brilliant: He takes the guilt out of a organized crime and the film kinda wants your dark side to stay behind bars that could help you. Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci have flawless performances, everyone sticks out and Pesci a strong stealer earned him Academy award for Best Supporting Actor.
"Goodfellas" and The Godfather trilogy competition can rise up their place for which is the better American crime, arguably Scorsese's finest hour, and "Goodfellas" is gritty and stylish.
