Review of Goodbye World (2013) by Thomas W — 02 Aug 2014
This is yet another of the seemingly endless "end of the world" flicks we've seen a surge of these last few years. Be it zombies or disease or mass chaos that brings about the end of humanity, these flicks have become quite prevalent as of late as they can be as fanciful as one wants or as bleak as one desires.
Goodbye World is a tamer take on this sub-genre as most of the "action" takes place off screen as the film instead focuses on a small group of friends who have come together to ride out civilized society's end in a remote cabin far removed from other people.
A cyber attack has brought mass hysteria and fear upon the masses and has brought many college friends to the home of James and Lily (Adrian Grenier ['Entourage'] and Kerry Bishe [Argo]) who long ago began living off of the land removing themselves from the human grid; but fear, uncertainty and paranoia even comes to their little neck of the woods when their close and/or distant friends from the past show-up in hopes of remaining safe.
Their tight-knit world begins to become unraveled and their continued security is no longer a guarantee. Gaby Hoffman (Field of Dreams), Ben McKenzie ('The O.C.') and Mark Webber (Happy Christmas) co-star.
