Review of Goodbye World (2013) by Norberto F — 17 Mar 2015
When society collapses due to a computer virus, a group of friends meet up in Northern California to get high and argue.
The movie is a little better than that description, mostly because the acting is across the board very good. I especially liked the always awesome Gaby Hoffmann as Laura. However, the personal stories set against the background of society's collapse are just so silly and dramatic. The actors do the best they can, but the characters come across as entitled brats who don't seem to understand what is going on around them, and therefore make silly choices. For example, there is a subplot about a couple dangerous military men hanging around, and yet no one seems to take any precautions, even after the confrontations begin to escalate. By the end of the movie, it seems like everything else going on in the background is just there to help shuffle couples around after they whine awhile.
