Review of Goodbye Solo (2009) by Abril S — 05 Apr 2009
Very stripped down, very slow-paced film tightly focused on the dynamics between an isolated, bitter, suicidal white man and a Senegalese cab driver who initially appears to be his exact opposite. By the end of the movie we understand the deep connections between these two superficially opposite men, how each man sees his own reflection in the life of the other.
The movie feels very real, authentic, extremely understated, non-dramatized. Nothing in the movie feels contrived or forced. The movie really affected me. Another reviewer on facebook said that "I have thought about this film every day since I saw it, and it impacts me more and more each day.
" I feel the same way.
