Review of Goodbye Solo (2009) by Adam K — 06 Jul 2009
We are transported right into the relationship between Solo and William, yet the beginning is a bit slow. I had to adjust to the non-professional actors, an idea that doesn't ever enamor me, except West of course.
Then the relationship becomes closer and in fact a friendship. This is were thhe film turned for me. It explored the human relationship very well, which created suspense as to how it would all end. The idea was that on October 20, Solo would give William a one way ride to the top of a mountain.
As I sat watching I couldn't wait to see how it would end. But when the end came I was severely disappointed. I'm okay with the route they went, but not how they did it. It was a letdown for my expectations and therefore made the suspense less entertaining in retrospect.
I liked Chop Shop better. Some great visuals here though.
