Review of Goodbye Solo (2009) by John W — 05 Jan 2010
I appreciate the concept of the film, though I was set back by minor grevienances. Many of the secondary actors lack any form of convincing tone or line reading. This is especially a problem with the waitress at the bar and Williams grandson.
Secondly, for such a strong theme, I do not appreciate the complete question mark that is left resonating in the ending. I am all for a movie that presses questions on the viewer. However, as the credits began to rol, I was left with a stale taste in my mouth.
Movies that surpass the 90% rating, to me, are movies worthy of a iconic status. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Slumdog Millionaire, both bearing an A status, represent scripts, acting, and originiality that resonate between movie lovers everhwere.
I feel this movie received such a high score based off the underlying tones and attempted meaning (nice guy trying to help misunderstood guy) rather than the quality of the screenplay, the quality of the actors, and the quality of the film.
