Review of Goodbye Solo (2009) by Mr F — 01 Feb 2010
I just love it when film writers do not believe that all spectators are stupid. I just feel grateful when they can be subtle and let you get to your own conclusions. I am fed up with the idea that we can not go beyond what is in the screen and imagine our own hypotheses and explanations.
I liked this movie, first because it is a great character story, and second because it feels very real and does not need too much to achieve a lot. I think that if I said that Ramin Bahrani is one of my favorite directors, not many people would know who I am talking about.
But with Goodbye Solo, this is the 3rd film of this director that I totally enjoyed (the other two are Chop Shop, and Man Push Cart). All of the 3 characterized by being totally centered on the story of marginalized characters and their every day anonymous struggles.
