"Goodbye Solo" is not the cloying story of spiritual triumph the movie poster might have you believe it is, nor is it the depressing meditation you might fear (based on its high rating among brooding art-critics).
What it is: a study of friendship between two opposing forces. Mostly it's about a man who depends on his cheerful, optimistic persona to get through life, and how this persona is threatened when he befriends a man who has lost hope, and might well be his shadow.
Hard to forget.
