Another fantastic film from Ramin Bahrani, director of "Man Push Cart" and "Chop Shop". Like his first two films, "Goodbye Solo" keeps a slow pace, letting us in on the everyday lives of his characters, reminding us that cinema can in fact be human.

However, "Goodbye Solo" adds an element of formalism his prior works were devoid of. There's more structure, more purpose within the narrative of "Goodbye Solo", building a sort of sacrificial love symbolism between his main characters, a Senegalese taxi driver and an old man who can't seem to find a purpose.

The symbolism isn't heavy-handed, thankfully, but instead is a great subtle undertone that adds another layer of character and storytelling, bridging the gap of realism and formalism and doing a good job of it I might add.

Bahrani is a director to look out for!
