Review of Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939) by Ken D — 08 Jul 2008
Although the Flixster recommendation engine considers Goodbye Mr. Chips to be like Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest, I found this movie to be sorely inferior in many ways. The special effects were awful.
The battle sequences were tame. It didn't even have a single squid-faced monster! All you can really say for Mr Chips is that it tells a touching story of man who becomes a great teacher. Sure, Donat's portrayal of Mr.
Chips was superb and deserving of the Oscar he won for it, but would it have killed them to add a few more eye-patches?
