Review of Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939) by Ted C — 10 Nov 2008
This was a well put together film, but over all I found the pacing too slow. I was also struck that the character, while he grew, more fell into his successes that grew into them. This felt somewhat silly to me.
The historical backdrop is lovely. The romance is really nice, although very predictable. All told I would give this film a solid OK. If you're not a serious classic movie buff, give this one a pass and catch something that is more likely to stir you.
