Review of Goodbye Christopher Robin (2017) by Lora N — 11 Oct 2017
I have mixed feelings about this film. I was very interested in the subject but found the trailer COMPLETE misleading. I went in thinking I was going to see a beautiful film about the life of the people responsible for being the world Winnie The Pooh and his friends. Instead it was a depressing tale of a father with PTSD, a terrible mother and a childhood sucked away by a promotional roller coaster. Billy Moon (aka Christopher Robin) clings to the story of Pooh as a way to connect to his parents but quickly realizes the only person actively looking out for him is his nanny, whose also dealing with her own family issues.
They did try put a happy spin at the end of this utterly depressing story but it was too little too late.
It's kinda hard now to enjoy the books knowing Christopher Robin would rather go to war and risk his life than spreading the joy of his dad's book.
