Review of Good Will Hunting (1997) by Aaron V — 30 Oct 2012
A stunning character-piece to say the least. When looking at its strong points, Good Will Hunting has certainly stood the test of time with flying colours, its script is superb and Will Hunting is a flawed but likeable main character. Robin Williams in turn rightfully deserved his Academy Award for best male supporting character. Some of his, improvised nonetheless, scenes are breathtakingly believable and heartfelt.
At a budget of $10 million however, Good Will Hunting was never quite the visual tour de force. Especially in light of more contemporary films that showcased the Ivy League schools as set pieces, Good Will Hunting falls somewhat flat. It has to be stated however that this does not compromise the integrity of the movie in any way whatsoever.
Good Will Huntings fifteenth anniversary fast approaching make a fitting excuse to revisit, in my opinion, one of the many highlights that is late 90's cinema.
