Review of Good Will Hunting (1997) by Zxsth — 15 Jun 2023
A deeply human and beautiful examination of how compassion and humanity help us cope with the effects of trauma and abuse. Matt Damon gives a beautifully vulnerable performance, with Robin Williams rising to meet him in every scene they share. All the other actors in the movie, including Ben Affleck and Minnie Driver, play their parts wonderfully.
It also cannot be denied that this is a compelling and wonderfully written screenplay, which has received many deserved accolades since the movie's release. The aforementioned excellent acting from everyone involved helps this movie to ascend beyond the sum of its parts, placing it deservedly among many other classic movies of the 20th century.
Good Will Hunting is poignant, realistic and beautiful, and will likely appeal to a number of different individuals, who will almost certainly be able to relate to the raw and real relationship between Damn and Williams.
