Review of Good Will Hunting (1997) by Ben T — 30 Jan 2016
Good Will Hunting is one of those films that is just nearly close to perfect. I adore this movie and it's just such a simple, nice movie which is sometimes all you need. Matt Damon is just fantastic, Will Hunting is an asshole, if you had to use one word to describe him it would probably be an asshole but he's so likeable and he's a great underdog as all you want to see is him reach his full potential and get out of Boston.
It's all through Damon's brilliant performance that you like a character who could have just been so unlikeable. Robin Williams is just fantastic. I know he's very well remembered for roles like Mrs Doubtfire or Hook but I will always remember him for this amazing role.
He's utterly brilliant here and he's just the nicest and most love able guy. I love just seeing him try and be friends with Will and when he starts yelling at him I'm completely with him. Ben and Casey Affleck are both brilliant, especially Ben who gives one of his best performances.
Stellar Skarsgard is also fantastic. This film is so well directed by Gus Van Sant and while it's not the most flashy movie it's still one of his best. The writing is without a doubt the best aspect of this film as its so well written and all of the dialogue is brilliant, especially the bar scene which is hilarious.
This is just a brilliant movie and I can't really think of any flaws. A+.
