I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. I find Pattinson's performance to be outstanding, he really proves that he's a good actor. But the movie itself is quite conventional and, yeah, it follows the agenda tropes perfectly as modern cinema requires.
It's only a bit unconventional in its attempt (and quite a good one) to tell its story differently, using energizing soundtrack, which I find to be the best thing in the film after Pattinson's performance.
