Review of Good Time (2017) by Tim W — 14 Jan 2018
Great performances from both leads. Robert Pattinson is a quality actor, vampire films notwithstanding, and he deserves good roles. But his recent output suggests his audience thinks otherwise as he goes from blockbuster to low budget indie films. This centres on two completely amoral losers - Pattinson's character thinks nothing of hoodwinking kind strangers and trying it on with a girl of questionable legality while his brother sees the world around as existing just to please him - and they will stop at nothing to get their own way. It's good to see someone with a learning disability played as a bad guy rather than a noble savage. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid they ain't and the moral vacuum that exists at the.
Heart of this makes for uneasy viewing. It's certainly played realistically. The dialogue is obviously loosely scripted giving the scenes a harsh immediacy and the score reminds me of a seventies heist movie. It's well executed. But you won't be cuddling on the sofa with popcorn watching it. Anyway Pattinson, you've done enough now to atone for your vampire. Get back in the big time.
