Review of Good Night, and Good Luck. (2005) by Joshua R — 15 Apr 2009
Wow, great movie about the hysteria and the media reporting in the McCarthy Era. Although the movie is mainly about a political controversy, it never drags and there's a real connection with the character.
Although the movie is all about Senator McCarthy, the producers only use recorded footages of him without hiring an actor to play him, an interesting choice and it works. David Strathairn is such a good actor and frankly never in the Hollywood limelight as I still remember him in The River Wild.
The only gripe about the movie is why they needed to include so many names like Downey, Jr. and Jeff Daniels when they didn't do much to push the story. Interestingly enough, the movie is short at 1:30, but the movie is intended to be swift and to the point.
I suggest anybody who's interested in learning more about the McCarthy Era or the power of journalism to watch this movie.
