Review of Good Night, and Good Luck. (2005) by Valerie P — 14 Dec 2009
I'm giving this film three stars because it talks about such an important and shameful part of American history. The horrible witch-hunt that McCarthy led upon many of the free-thinkers, actors, artists, writers, or just plain unfortunate souls is not something that we should allow to fade from our memories anytime soon. Ed Murrow is a name that should be spoken with great respect, as he was such a brave campaigner for truth in a time when people were truly afraid to speak their minds.
The film itself, however, was a bit scattered and difficult to follow. If you are not familiar with the names and faces from that time period (as my British husband was not), you may find yourself struggling to keep abreast of the storyline.
The acting is fantastic, and I like the stark realism of the black and white film. It was all just a little chaotic and choppy in my opinion.
