Review of Good Night, and Good Luck. (2005) by Stephen S — 30 Mar 2011
Another movie that got a ridiculous amount of Oscars even though nothing really happened during the film. Half of it was just film clips of McCarthy being a dumbass, and the CBS guys going after him because of it.
Now before you say something about how you have to have lived through the time in order to appeciate this film, yes I'm not nearly old enough to have done that, but I know all about it from college and high school level classes, as well as various documentaries.
I think McCarthy's as much of a fool as anyone else does, but that doesn't mean the movie has to be uinteresting. Maybe I just had high expectations for this film considering it got NOMINATED FOR SIX OSCARS!!! SIX!! I wouldn't have even given it a single Oscar.
Let's face it, anything that's a political documentary will get a ton of nominations, especially if it somehow involves the Academy's golden boy, George Clooney...the fact that he stars in this is the real reason why this film got nominated.
Plus, he directed it, so that's like the Academy's ultimate fantasy. All you need to know is that this film is as boring as any non-Ocean's Eleven Clooney film, so if you've had the misfortune of seeing Syriana or Michael Clayton, then you don't need to see this.
