Jake Paltrow's directing debut stars British actor Martin Freeman (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) as a former popstar on the verge of a mid-life crisis, until he meets a woman he falls in love with, who loves him in return.

Unfortunately, she's just in his dreams, so he has to find a way to live this really strange relationship, probably the most important of his whole life. Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead), director's sister Gwyneth Paltrow, Penelope Cruz and Danny DeVito star alongside Freeman in this light drama.

The plot is quite original and the screenplay is not bad at all. It's just Paltrow's direction (consider he had been able to work with a 15 million $ budget, an hefty sum for an indie movie) that doesn't feel right.

I think it's quite hard distinguishing the "dream" parts from the real ones. It's the movie's bigger downside. The Good Night is, however, a nice flick, that could really be worth a rent if you don't find anything else interesting at the video store.
