In the Vietnam war setting, Good Morning Vietnam emphasizes the horrors of the war as good as any other film, and the drama works very well. Robin Williams did a great part in the drama with an ideal character for the situation. It never ridiculously dramatized anything and constantly set the feeling right.

Forest Whitaker supported the movie really well and gave a gold performance to the role of a friendly soldier.

That being said, Good Morning Vietnam was hilarious. I was laughing constantly at watching Robin Williams being full of energy and shooting it over the airwaves. He played a great, hilarious character and never lived down the reputation. This is the ideal role for him, being out of place by full of enegy. This is common of Williams, regardless of if it's a situation facing comedy or drama (Such as Dead Poets Society) and he commonly plays it well.

Good Morning Vietnam had a great screenplay, themes that were dealt with perfectly, a great soundtrack, fitting cinematography and good film editing. We have Barry Levinson to thank for that, considering the excellent direction he has given to the story and the balance between comedy and drama. Good Morning Vietnam is memorable for so many reasons. But certainly most notably because of Robin Williams.
