Review of Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) by Ken S — 12 Aug 2014
Robin Williams' recent passing made me revisit one of his finest performances in "Good Morning, Vietnam". Here is a film that really showcases the talents of Williams best. When his character is on the radio, he can be the manic madcap Williams that is so well known, with rapid-fire jokes that keep on coming.
But off the air he can be a more reserved and human person, and it is one of the first films to really showcase that the actor was more than just a comedian, he had real dramatic chops as well. The scene that best showcases Williams' talent is when he is talking with all the troops on the trucks.
..he delivers his rapid-fire humor at the same time his eyes look sad for these boys going into combat. The film is pretty entertaining throughout, and kind of humanized the Vietnam War, which had mostly been demonized fairly harshly in cinema beforehand.
