Review of Good Luck Chuck (2007) by Kyle B — 03 Jan 2012

Now this was an ackward combination, the formula feels generic and with a good chance for the success, but in the end falls short. Dane Cook is funny, when he is doing stand up, but when he tries his comedic talents inbetween scripted lines, it feels fake.

Cook plays Charlie Logan, a man who after any woman sleeps with, finds the next man who will become her true love. Cook stumbles across Alba, who is falls for, and of course, resists physical temptation in fear that she too will find her true love.

This film is a great date movie, and works on that level, not on a comedic level, and after films like Knocked Up and Superbad, it just doesn't feel funny. Cook's best friend seems to be the comedic fat guy, instead is just vulgar and simply not funny.

Some sprinkled nudity here and there, mixed with language give this film the R-rating, now I am no stickler, and greatly enjoyed the dirty mouth humor of such films like Superbad, but the R-rated content of this film felt completely uneeded, and could have been trimmed to a PG-13 in my opinion, it could only help at the box office, considering this week's other big release is Resident Evil: Extinction which is also R.

All in all the love story is...dare I say cute, but guys and gals don't expect Cook's usual stand-up greatness, it unfortunately follows in the footsteps of Employee of the Month, but is deffinately worth a see.
