Review of Good Kill (2015) by Solidity Q — 02 Sep 2015
Good Kill does have a solid decent performance from Ethan Hawke, this drama film does not have much else of a purpose besides the theme of military depending on drones. An alcoholic Major Thomas (Ethan Hawke) is a U.
S. Air Force fighter pilot who flies unmanned drones and follows on airstrikes on orders that are given. Director Andrew Niccol does focus on the movies theme on how the future will rely on drones and the pilots who are safely in military bases in the U.
S. soil as they conduct airstrike attacks in other countries. At the same time, it does bring a safe approach for our military instead of them having to be out there in the battlefield. Good Kill is a tedious drama film that has a bland script that does not give any character depth.
Major Thomas is an alcoholic and loves the adrenaline of actually facing danger himself but instead he is in a small cargo container flying the drones. He struggles to maintain a healthy marriage which his wife played by January Jones notices his anti social distant behavior.
The drama between his character and his views on what he is doing, as he figures he is doing something wrong but he is only following orders that is coming from Langley. The film does feel like a social commentary as we watch how his character is affecting him psychologically and emotionally.
Otherwise, there is not much of a plot to even follow, as we see his character carrying out airstrikes and attacking terrorists or hostiles in a different country. Good Kill is a dull drama film that does not have much to offer and quite forgettable.
