Review of Good Hair (2009) by Elizabeth M — 05 Nov 2009
I liked this movie, but thought it wasn't cohesive enough. Don't get me wrong. I loved the jumps from topic to topic, but the jumps weren't that smooth. The funniest part of the movie came when Chris Rock "told" whites to stop coming up to black people and touching their hair without even asking. I guffawed like mad, as this has happened all too often to me.
From checking out hair salons and the "creamy crack" industry, to traveling to India to discuss hair weaves (India's biggest export), it was an interesting documentary.
I type this as I'm on my way to get my natural black hair "did." Won't need any creamy crack or weave to polish off my natural hair crown. And yes, people, you can touch my hair. Just have the good sense to (1) ask permission first, and (2) not pet my hair like I'm a dog.
