Review of Good Hair (2009) by Jan R — 17 Apr 2010
Um, Chris Rock's daughters are, like illegally adorable. I just think that we should note this for posterity. That said, I enjoyed this documentary very much, but I don't know that it challenged much about the relationship between white supremacist attitudes and the way we construct beauty, femininity, etc.
It touches on those issues, without really exploring them. Maybe the goal of the documentary was to inform people, and through wanting to reach a wider audience, it tried not to offend people? I'm not sure, but it's definitely a bit conciliatory.
They probably could have pushed more boundaries. That said, I did like it and enjoy it.
