Review of Good Dick (2008) by Sv G — 04 Apr 2009
I found the film "Good Dick" to be an interesting attempt at exposing the depth of hurt and loss of trust that can occur when a person has been sexually molested. (Many people will not wait the film out to pick up on this, however.
) I think it took a whole lot of courage for the director/writer/actor Marianna Palka to share these feelings and to act them out so effectively, even if they did not happen to her. She portrayed a character we have all had glimpses of.
Lonely lost, hard to figure out individuals who are not usually subjects in a film. This is an important film just because of this. I could see it being used in a therapeutic way. I thought the character played by Jason Ritter was unique because of his persistent in helping this shattered woman, often without really getting anything in return.
His sincerity and gentleness seemed real. It is not often that character development reaches this depth. I should also mention that this movie had many hilarious scenes!
