Review of Good Dick (2008) by Adam S — 21 Jan 2010
This type of film reminds me of "Crash", it takes some understanding unless you can empathize with it the first time you see it. What I really praise about this film is its character build up.
The plot was a good one and the struggle throughout the movie created the inspirational ending, it is a dark movie, and it can be somewhat depressing, but you see the beauty of it all take form and it could have gone two ways and I must say the way they ended it was a great choice.
I would give it a full blown 5 stars but it did lack a little background information on the main characters, and though we are revealed bits and pieces throughout the film (mainly with Mariann Palka), it did lack picking up on Jason Ritter's character's history and his growth as a person and into the relationship.
Tiny plot holes that don't ruin the movie, but it's a nagging pest and wouldn't have taken much to clear up. Overall, outstanding movie, one of those you see it every couple of months to put life in perspective types of films, a great work.
