Review of Good Bye, Lenin! (2003) by Marissa C — 30 Apr 2008
I adored this film for its writing, its historical significance and its heart. I remember being six when the Berlin Wall came down, and although it didn't mean much to me then, I remember there being a shift in how the world looked at and thought of Germany.
Now as adult Deutschophile, this movie really got me interested in learning more about the socialist history of East Germany. Daniel Brühl does an excellent job with playing the dutiful son unto the last for his mother and the editing and direction makes the film at times playful and heartfelt.
