Review of Good Bye, Lenin! (2003) by Kevin J — 20 Oct 2009
A brilliant film both about a place in history and the extent a loving son will go to to keep a charade up for his ailing mother. Alexander Beyer gives a wonderful performance. Yann Tiersen has created yet another incredible score.
I love this film not only for the splendid plot, but also for the look it gives the viewer into a certain time in German history that many of us who weren't alive or old enough to understand what was going on at the time really don't see too much about.
I don't know if it's just because Yann Tiersen did the score for this, but I feel like it's Amelie-esq in some ways. Perhaps it is the fanciful quality that they both share. Regardless, this is a cinematic treasure.
