Review of Good Bye, Lenin! (2003) by Matthew M — 23 Nov 2009
This movie was so good. Seriously, it may be the best foreign film that I have ever seen. It tells the tale of a young son and his sister as they try to cope and care for their mother who has fallen into a coma for the end of socialism.
As an upstanding Comrade, she wouldn't take well to the shock of a capitalistic East Germany, so her son decides it would be better to fabricate the GDR for her. The movie is at times laugh-out-loud, but it never loses its hearfelt core.
Mostly a poignant look at what great lengths some would go to protect their family. This is a must-see for everyone...it is phenomenal.
