Review of Good Bye, Lenin! (2003) by Lysann B — 16 Jan 2011
When I saw the film for the first time I didn't expect it to be so emotional for me. It's running under the genre of comedy and although it has a light satirical approach, is the movie deeply touching and more than occasionally tragic.
Tragic not only because a family was torn apart due to a political regime and it's pressing state security service. Tragic also because it isn't at all only about one family, it is about many destinies; tragic furthermore because you see a land disappearing and everything with it and tragic at last and the most because all of it happened for real.
And you might still feel the lost and yet don't know where you belong, and you might feel you don't have the elbows to survive in the pool of sharks around you, but you know exactly you don't have a choice. And you might feel afraid of the things to come.
If you are at this point in your life, just grab the movie and have a good cry.
For me the trailer is enough to have to look out for a tissue, but I always watch the full film as well, not only because of the relieving cry, but just because it's a perfect movie.
