Review of Good Bye, Lenin! (2003) by Otageemeur L — 20 Jan 2011
"Good Bye, Lenin" is before all a wonderful family movie, with a gorgeous soundtrack and a very original theme.
Quick synopsis: The story is set in Germany, in two time period: at the time the Germany was still separated in two and when the Germany reunited. It is talking about a family. A day, the son will make a mistake which will make his mother fell into a coma. Years later, when Germany united, the mother woke up from her coma. The son, knowing that her mother was a communist and she would be afraid about all the change in Germany, he decided to trick her and make her believe that Germany is still separated.
As a result, the movie is a wonderful story about the relationship between the son and his mother, the son trying to please his mother in that new world she didn't know anything about. I love how the relationships between the various characters is depicted and how Germany changed between those two periods.
This movie is a jewel, the actors are perfect, the music is awesome, the story is great and the feeling this movie give you is simply heart-warming.
I definitely recommend it and consider it as the best movie I ever saw.
