Quite commonly, as time passes, even the bad parts of our life begin to have a luster. Well, "Goodbye, Lenin!" does this on a national scale, and by giving characters an emotional reason to keep the DDR alive, it does the unthinkable: It makes one nostalgic of an authoritarian country.
