Review of Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (2008) by Carl D — 06 Jul 2008
First off: Make no mistake, this is a highly entertaining movie. Of course it is, it's about HST.
The problem that I found is, isn't this supposed to be a biographical movie? In reality it just retells, fittingly amusing, the 'legend' of HST. What we don't really dip into are the demons that possessed him. We see all the symptoms alright - but where did the split personality come from? What about the pain that drove him?
I find, only if you understand those through his writings will you know - the movie doesn't provide that answer.
Still...well worth watching.
