Review of Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (2008) by Artemus W — 09 Jul 2008
Important documentary about an important writer. Though much is left out, like his top-notch early foreign affairs reporting for the National Observer, his first two novels Prince Jellyfish and The Rum Diary, and key articles like "Strange Rumblings in Aztlan" and "The Temptations of Jean-Claude Killy," everything else of note is covered.
His major works on the Hell's Angels and the death of the American dream--Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trial--are highlighted. Highly recommended introduction but no substitute for reading these essential works.
