Review of Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (2008) by Chris S — 15 May 2010
With a run time of almost two hours, this tried to do too much and ended up doing too little. Already knew quite a bit about the parts of Thompson's life that got the most screen time here -- and while I never thought I'd ever say these words, I could have used less Johnny Depp.
Really enjoyed the story of Thompson's run for office in Aspen, and hearing from his first wife and their son, Juan. Seemed to sanitize T's complex relationship with Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone, though.
Not enough about his fractured childhood, either, which I'd argue continued right up until his death. Still very much worth a watch, though. (3 stars).
