Review of Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (2008) by Tamatai N — 20 Jul 2010
Engaging, entertaining, moving and immensly enjoyable, this documentary paints a portrait of a man who lived his life to the fullest and most extreme, on his own terms and with his own beliefs that were, ultimately, grounded in a stern desire to try to better the world around him and expose the dark evils that dwelled within the recesses of the western world; particularly the farce of the so-called 'American dream'.
The film is uncompromising and unapologetic about exposing all levels of this infamous and influential figure of literature and seeks to drive right into the heart of what made Hunter Thompson such a talented writer and almost mythical figure within sub-cultural/counter-cultural spheres, as well as politics, pop culture and widespread media.
A must-see for any fan of Thompson and for anyone who wishes to see how a man can truly live on the edge, even if it means stumbling over it a few too many times.
