Review of Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (2008) by Ollie W — 30 Sep 2010
A nice reminder of the legend that was Hunter S Thompson... Hero, Writer, Journalist and complete and utter Fruit-Bat. Strangely made documentary though - some good footage and excellent moments of focus on it's enigma of a subject, but mostly, the film is just too badly structured to make any memorable points - moving all over the place and seeming to depend on frequent amateurish visualisations of Thompson's words - words which are already about as vivid in their descriptions and imagery as you can get.
Its in this this lack of coherence that the film essentially fails - but then again, a failing, sporadic, frenetic movie that sprawls in everyway..? Thompson would probably have loved it.
