Review of Gone with the Wind (1939) by Christopher S — 03 May 2012
Arguably the greatest film of all time. Definitely in the top ten of the 20th century. Some of the greatest characters in film history are in this film. Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh are amazing and their chemistry is second to none.
That is amazing since Gable is one of the best actors of all time and Leigh herself is one of the greatest as well yet they are forever linked as Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara. This film set new standards and sadly also poorly portrayed how slaves were treated during the antebellum era.
However, that should not take away from the overall genius of the film. The acting was superb, the writing was spot on, and the pacing was good throughout the film, something that is rarely seen in an epic of this stature.
One of a few films which does not seem too long (although it is) and a must-see for everyone.
