Review of Gone with the Wind (1939) by Markus M — 30 Jul 2015
The characters and their relationships - while severely damaged - are three-dimensional and interesting, making this four-hour epic - despite arguably bloated - never boring, which in itself is a marvel as I've seen film's a quarter of this length that have still managed to bore me to tears. It is however impossible to ignore how off-putting all this drama becomes when the characters that go through it are built up as Southern heroes of the Civil War era in a film that spends the vast majority of its runtime not even focusing on the relationships between its characters, but instead glorifying the Confederacy to such ridiculous extents that any attempt to relate to the characters and especially to the ideology of the film becomes not only difficult, but frankly a waste of time.
6-/10.
